In an age where bands like Simple Plan, Jonas Brothers and a whole slew of similar bands rule the airwaves, good live performers are getting far and few. But fear not, for there is hope yet.
1. Muse
Hysteria - Muse
One of the few bands that can do it better live than on record, which is saying a lot, especially if you know how good they are on record. Nice use of effects/distortion on the bass, too, particularly on this song. They sold out two nights at Wembley Stadium. That has to mean something, right?
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Great band, with a great bassist to match. Again, better than on record. Are you seeing a pattern here? Also, that little jamming bit in beginning is spontaneous (i.e. unrehearsed). Awesome, huh?
3. Switchfoot
Awakening - Switchfoot
Woo, Switchfoot! The best rock concert I've been for (or indeed the only rock concert I bothered going for). And if you'll notice, that video of them up there is their performance right here in KL.
4. Avenged Sevenfold
Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold
Like it or loathe it, they're actually good live. I'm not a huge fan, but they play well, have a rhythm guitarists that puts most lead guitarists to shame and do really, really good guitar solos.
Well, that's a rather depressingly short list, but it's all I can think of off the top of my head. Go forth and listen!
